BOSE (R) 5.1 Lifestyle 38 Series III DVD Home Entertainment System ( Black )

Excellent, I always wished I should have Bose Home theater system and got one.
Its 38 series and its awesome. I recommend both, the product and the seller.
Product was in the original box all sealed.
the best, (What's this?)
for me this is something. I have used a pair of bose 901 serie vi reflecting speakers, and is the best you can get.
Never received it!, This was the worst on line buying experience I could have ever imagined. I ordered a Bose Surround Sound system from Amazon/Electronic Expo and the delivery date that UPS would deliver it was April 4. A week passed from the delivery date and I called UPS and Amazon to find out why my order had not been delivered. I was told to contact the sender, Electronic Expo, and a man named ARA told me that they would contact me in 1-7 days concerning the delivery. Another week passed and no one contacted me. I then called E.E. and spoke to ARA again and he said he would contact me in 1-7 days. I explained to him that is what he told me the previous week and that he did not call me in that time period. He began shouting at me and unfortunately I shouted back at him and nothing was resolved concerning the system delivery.

Coby DVD968 5.1-Channel DVD Home Theater System with 1080p Upconversion, DivX Playback and AM/FM Tuner (Black)

elegants beat money, (What's this?) I bought this for my ama and she put it in the living room.. it works great, a little complicated for people that don't know much about electronics.. settings are easy and simple that's if u read the manuals hahaha... this system looks elegant and i love how u can CAN mount this on the walls by just screwing a screw on the wall and attaching speakers... dvd works great, playing music or videos on a mmc works well, have not tryed usb card, usb card might be better then a mmc card... with a good price u can't go wrong..... o, fast shipping... thanks...
Poor customer service, The product is ok...but if you have problems... Customer service sucks. Also, tied of having too many remote controls ... Don't get too excited about adding coby to a universal remote. Their FAQ was less than helpful...
An email I almost sent to them....
In reference to your FAQ regarding remote codes, I found it fairly rude that your answer was simply...the is no code, use the remote that came with it. Really?! There are codes, but they don't function properly....is this coby's attempt at being proprietary like Apple?
In this day and age with all kinds of devices out there....all with remotes...I see nothing wrong with allowing a UR to control the device. You're not losing money...the device is already in hand.
I now understand many of the comments people have made with regard to coby products relative to their stress level.
Low quality, (What's this?) I bought this product and it looked great just what I was hoping for, set it up and it worked great for a couple weeks, then while trying to watch a DVD, lines started appearing just like you would see on a old VHS when the tracking was off, there was nothing I could do to fix this, I tried different DVDs and the same thing happened, but when I put the same DVDs in a different DVD player it played fine so it was not the DVD it was the system. Then while I was watching T.V it suddenly let out a loud high pitch squeal no matter what I did I could not get it to stop. I had to power it off and then back on. When I turned it back on it worked fine for a few minutes then the squeal was back. It was so loud I thought my smoke detectors were going off. So I realized I could no longer use this as a DVD player or surround sound for my TV and I just used it for the radio, then while listening to the radio, out of nowhere the music suddenly stops and a loud static noise blares from the speakers, I thought that maybe it was the station so I tried to change the station and the system was frozen I had to unplug it and wait a while before I plug it back in and tried again. To no avail the same thing happened so I unplugged the system and never plugged it back in. It is garbage...
sucks, biggest pile of ---- ive ever owned. had it for almost a year now, still havent been able to watch a movie. contacted coby support regarding the fact when you turn it on the volume is set to 34. got nothing but a rude response from coby. SAVE YOUR MONEY ! i went the cheap way and wont do that again. look...$140.00 for a dvd AND surround sound...think about it, you get what you pay for.
Frustrated!!!, I really dislike this unit. I wish my husband would have approved an upgrade. Here's what I hate:
    (1) The remote is difficult to use. 2) None of the movies on my USB drive would play. I have the movies in MPEG-4 which is part of the DivX system. So, this should have worked. I wanted to start one of Yale's Open Courses - - and walk on the treadmill at the same time. It should have been easy. Plug the USB mini-drive into the slot, press the USB button on the remote, find my tennis shoes and go! But, no! It doesn't work. 3) The website says that the warranty on this is 90 days. As a result, I am going to have to go to my credit card and ask for the extended warranty on this one. I'm really annoyed by this product.

The sound, however, is really good. The DVD player works.
Does the job., (What's this?) We bought the Coby system to make up for the fact that the speakers in our TV play out of the back of the screen. The system does a good job of broadcasting the sound toward us and makes it easier to hear over the noise of the window AC unit. The back wall speakers wires were not long enough to reach our back wall. Makes me wish we'd gotten wireless. So those speakers are sitting on the floor next to the couch. We don't get the full effect of surround sound.
For ease of use... It took us quite a bit of experimenting to figure out how to get the sound to play from the TV through the speakers. The manual is not especially helpful as a guide.
Poorly designed DVD Home Theater, (What's this?) Coby DVD968 5.1-Channel DVD Home Theater System with 1080p Upconversion, DivX Playback and AM/FM Tuner (Black)
This unit looks pretty cool it has good video and fair sound quality for a small room. Everything else about it was disappointing. I would have just returned it had I tried it out before intsalling the unit into my system. There is no way to switch between inputs other than going thru and initial wait for the dvd software to load and then switching to radio which blasts out at twice the volume level as the DVD, and then going to the line in input with as a lower volume threshhold than the DVD. The volume control is a very slowly responding knob that will not stay in sync with the actual volume level as you try to adjust it to avoid the radio volume blast that you must endure if you need to cycle thru the sources to get to the line in (I use mine for the cable box sound) input. This would be far less a problem had they just put seperate buttons for each of the three sources.
A budget home theater, (What's this?) As for a surround sound system, it's not bad. The sound itself is fine, but the subwoofer is little more than a woofer in a ported enclosure, pointed at the floor. It has no dedicated power, just that it receives from the player. The subwoofer tends to distort at higher volumes, which indicates that little care went in to designing a system that meets the power levels supplied.
Good sound system for the money, (What's this?) This is a pretty good sound system for the money. I got it mainly because it plays USB drives and DIVX. This means that I watch videos straight off my flash drive. This was easy to setup, but only has 1 input, so everything has to go through the TV. It sounds pretty good but not a lot of bass. The sub woofer does not have it's own power cord.
not a good phone, (What's this?) this phone is not unlocked and it's no good to meMotorola T-Mobile Sidekick Slide Q700 Cell Phone With 1.

Sony BDV-E770W Blu-ray Player Home Entertainment System [3D Compatible]

decent sound, but not very functional streaming, (What's this?) I found this system to be very slick in appearance and low on performance. the sound system is good, but the wireless only works about half the time, error messages, endless freeze ups and interrupted movies, not to mention buffering. I thought it was my connection until I bought a new television and its internet system is flawless by comparison. This is the last Sony for me.
can be an excellent entertainment center, With only a little help, this item can be a super entertainment senter.
    1. if you enjoy real music, change the front and center speakers ( 2 inch speakers, whether Sony or Bose can not produce music below 200 hz..there is a mid range hole between the small speakers and the subwoofer..Use a good pair of speakers that have at least a 4 inch woofer.Klipsch or Energy speakers will do fine..
    2. Do you like to feel the bass in movies..Change the subwoofer to one that has an amplifier (active subwoofer) klipsch or energy
3..the net gear ethernet wifi box is better than what sony sent...I dont use either, i sold sony's on ebay and used the money for a roku xd box..its wifi, connects instantly...
4.the e770w liked instantly to my toshiba tv...and my Harmony remotes works fine too
    5. Love the wireless rear speakers..Wife friendly
6..now i have a custom e770w that i really love..I can undestand the dialog in movies.and feel the action movies.
7 connections.. my cable tv and the roku are attached to the tv..hdm1 1 and 3..the Sony is hdm1 #2 and alos has a fiber optic cable from the tv to the sony for cable/roku sound...
Not everything works, I do enjoy my Sony Home Theater system immensely. Once I got past the networking issues of being wireless (we finally went to wired to get Netflix properly) its really been a great system. The only real problem I've had is its external hard drive recognition. I originally bought the system to go with my Hitachi 2 TB drive.

Well this has failed miserably. The Sony has yet to read any drive connected to its USB port including flash drives. Nothing to date has read even with all the endless updates it does.
any upgrade available for iPod interface?, I purchased this from Best Buy (was able to get it cheaper than here...) and overall think this will be a good unit. The setup was okay but the quick start sheet that was in the box never tells you to put the quick start disc into the unit. Besides that glitch my only complaint about the features so far is that the iPod interface is non-existent. The Apple USB cord will plug into the front of the unit and your Sony remote will control the function of the iPod. But that's it. There is no display feature through your television so you have no way of navigating the iPod menus without looking at the iPod itself.

Is there a system upgrade that has actual display support for iPod? It's weird that my friend's Kia car stereo works better with my iPod than my Sony receiver.
Good System, (What's this?) Good system for the money. Like the wireless rear speakers. Passive subwoofer leaves a lot to be desired but gets the job done.
Solid replacement for previous Samsung HTIB that failed, When my Samsung HT-BD1250 HTIB system failed after 2 years (sound dropouts on wireless rear speakers, and finally failure to play any DVD or BluRay disc to completion), I began shopping for a replacement system with similar features: BluRay, 5.1 surround sound with wireless rear speakers, 'Net streaming capability for Netflix/Pandora, etc., and reasonable price point. My search led me to evaluate the newer Sony BDV-E780W, among others. I visited Best Buy for a hands-on demo, and stumbled upon a close-out deal for the previous year's BDV-E770W system...
Great System, But Can't Keep, (What's this?) This is a beautiful blu ray player, easy wifi connection, as well as a great audio system---but could not keep the rear wireless speakers connected to amp. Spent nearly 3 hours with different Sony techs trying to resolve by doing the same fix multiple times. A supervisor finally said the system has a problem and we could send for repair or return to Amazon. Didn't make any sense to send a new unit for repair, so we returned---thus the 3 stars. Too bad because the system otherwise was five stars plus.
    My Best Buy, (What's this?)
Great, (What's this?) It is a great product. The only concern is when try to use the internet wireless feature. It takes too long to type.
EASIER SET UP THAN I THOUGHT, WHEN I FIRST GOT IT AND SAW ALL THE CABLES I STARTED TO HAVE SECOND THOUGHT, HOWEVER ONCE I STARTED SORTING UP
ALL THE PARTS I SAW HOW SIMPLE AND LOGICAL IT WAS. SO THAT WAS THAT AS FAR AS PLACING THYE COMPONENTS AND CONECTING THE WIRES.

THEN MY PAST BAD EXPERIENCES WITH POOR SOFWARE TO OPERATE THE EQUIPMENT CAME TO MIND AND I WAS PRAYING THAT THAT WILL NOT BE THE CASE AND IT WAS NOT I WAS TOTALLY IMPRESSED WITH HOW EASY SONY MADE IT TO SET UP THE UNIT, STARING WITH CALIBRATING THE SPEAKERS AND SETING UP PREFERENCES. SETTING UP THE WIRELESS NETWORKING WAS SO EASY THAT I KEPT THINKING THAT SOMETHING MIGHT BE WRONG BUT EVERYTHING WORKED JUST FINE (in networking menu choose to auto detect
network then it gives you 2 minutes to go to your router press the WEP button on the back of the unit AND THAT WAS IT IT WORKS!! SUGESTION: IF NETWORK IS NOT DETECTED JUST MOVE THE USB WIRELESS NETWORK ADAPTER SO THAT THERE IS LESS OBSTRUCTION BETWEEN IT AND ROUTER SPECIALLY METAL.

    Panasonic SC-HTB15 Home Theater System

wish the bass work as well as clear-dialogue mode, (What's this?) I must say it is not what I expected.

    YES:
    the clear-mode dialogue works very well;
    the setup is very easy;
    design looks great;
    different configurations are possible very good;

    NO:
    You really have to turn the volume up to 50(max:100) get the bass and yet it is not very strong (I have linked it with my panasonic plasma TV). To me it seems the bass is only selective, you will not hear bass at all in the voice. I have tried all settings to get the best bass result but not succeed. Anyway I might be wrong;
    Remote can be a hassle - the key is you have to press and hold specific button and press again to switch among the settings;

Bottomline is you really need a sound 'processor' (simliar to a 5.1 soundcard) otherwise speakers are just speakers.
Would not work with my flat screen., (What's this?)
Only Half Functional With Optical Cable, I bought this item in part based on the great reviews I read on this site. The system is very easy to set up and looks nice with my television. The remote is rather small and easy to lose, but it works fine. However, my experience with the sound system is at odds with what others have reported. I find that the bass works rather well, but the regular speakers add nothing that I did not already have. In other words, without the bass, I could not tell much of a difference between my TV speakers (Sony 40" TV) and the Panasonic soundbar. Worse, I find that the voices are slightly harder to hear with the soundbar than they are with my regular TV speakers.

Although the system is supposed to automatically switch between different audio formats (dolby digital, DTS, and PCM), the system has been stuck in PCM mode from day one and has never switched despite watching movies with dolby digital sound. You can manually switch to the other two modes, but the system automatically switches back to PCM mode after only a few seconds.
    Very good sound bar for the price, Except for one small caveat (as other reviewers have already noted), the Panasonic SC-HTB15 sound bar speaker system is an excellent addition to improve your TV sound over stock speaker. Oh, and those on a budget. ^_^;

I like the fact that speaker can be set up either as two separate or as one single bar-type depending on how your TV is set up. Set-up is pretty straight forward. You use supplied screws to attach the speaker to either stand for left and right speaker or use connector to create single bar-type. Attach the thin white speaker cables to speaker and then decide if you will use either HDMI (ARC) or optical cable to pipe in the sound. If your TV has neither then you may have to do work around.

I have small living room so setting up surround sound system with dedicated receiver will be an overkill for me. Once hooked up, I compared the TV sound and the Panasonic sound and by golly, I am glad I bought this system.

Of course, some people may not agree with me where sound is concerned but if you're happy with the sound then that's what count.

Lastly, if you buy the speaker at Costco, it already comes with both optical and HDMI cable thrown in free.
Best one yet., I have a Sony soundbar (SS-MCT100), a Yamaha soundbar (YAS-71) and, now, this Panasonic. The Panasonic is the best of the three. The sound separation is amazing, dialogue is clear and not muffled by sound effects or music. The volume is also superior to the Sony and the Yamaha (with the Yamaha being superior to the Sony). Hookup, to a Vizio 42-inch edge-lit LED, was simplicity itself. As the Vizio does not have an ARC HDMI, I used an optical sound cable (which came in the box, as did an HDMI cable). I am also running a Samsung BluRay DVD and a Roku XD box though it - with the same excellent results. Total set-up time: about eight minutes. (And I'm no wiz at these things.) After programming the Panasonic into the Vizio remote (use code: 31275),I put the Panasonic remote into a drawer. Last but by no means least, the Panasonic is considerably slimmer than either the Sony or the Yamaha which means it doesn't get in the way of the television's remote signal receiver. Plus, the Panasonic soundbar can be split into two and used as separate speakers on either side of your television (or hung on the wall either side of the television). I paid $199.00, on sale, at Costco.
Worked well with Panasonic tv, (What's this?) When consider buying a home theater or speaker set, Panasonic was not my first choice. In the end I decided to go for SC-HTB15 mainly because it would probably go well with my Panasonic plasma tv. And it does. This 2.1 system is a big improvement over the built-in tv speakers; sound feels deeper and richer. Panasonic Vera-link works as advertised; i can turn on/off and adjust volume with my tv remote or cable remote. For $221 I think it is a worthy investment(most other major brand sound bar or 2.1 systems run from 300 to some over 1000). Some downsides of this otherwise great product:
    1. HTB15 requires a HDMI, or a HDMI cable plus an optical cable if your tv does not support latest HDMI-ARC feature. Neither cable is included in the box, and I had to run off to nearby electronic store to find cables, which added another $40 to the total cost.
    2.
Panasonic SC-HTB15PP-K For The Win!, (What's this?) I purchased (2) of these for (2) different computers that I own. I have a Home Theater PC and my wife has a computer in her home office. Both of our motherboards (ASROCK Motherboards with REALTEK AUDIO) have a built in OPTICAL OUTPUT. I simply purchased (2) OPTICAL CABLES here on Amazon.com and hooked them directly from my PC to this unit. Simply stated, the sound is AMAZING. The speakers are quite thin but extremely clear with no real audible distortion! Much like everyone elses review(s), I was quite impressed! I am able to tweak the audio output even more because the REALTEK AUDIO output on my motherboard has a graphic equalizer. Simply amazing sound is all I can say! It is well worth the price I paid for it.
    Pros and Cons, pros:
The system is easy to set up. Sound is clear. Works with my comcast cable box remote. 3d pass.

    cons:
The bass could be better. There is only 2 hdmi inputs.

    Summary:
Overall this is a decent unit with clear sound and decent features. Only draw back is that there are only 2 hdmi inputs but this review is mainly on the sound performance of this system.
Very good soundbar for the price, (What's this?) I bought this sound bar for a Samsung D8000 LED TV in a large bedroom. I looked at the Samsung sound bars but the reviews were not as positive and I like the options Panasonic provides for placement as independent vertical speakers on stands or as a horizontal bar. I also wanted a wired sub-woofer because of issues I've read about wireless subwoofers cutting out (not Panasonic's, in particular, but I didn't want to worry about this). I actually ended up using my speakers as two separate horizontal speakers rather than a bar, which just works better for my setup and I get a little more separation of the left and right channels. The speakers are also barely noticeable. By the way, everything connects through the subwoofer unit, which contains the amplifier and the controls, including the remote sensor. If you want to hide the subwoofer somewhere that will be blocked and/or inaccessible, this could present a problem, depending on how well you can control the system through your TV. In any event, the subwoofer is fairly attractive and unobtrusive, so I don't mind having it beside the chair. When I first connected the system to my TV using the HDMI ARC connection, the sound was definitely better than the sound from the TV's speakers but it was lacking something.
In a word: AMAZING. It's like being in the Theater, Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?) The Panasonic SC-HTB15 Home Theater System made watching movies at home better then going to the theater (no parking hassles, no lines, no expensive tickets, popcorn or sodas... and no more battling strangers for the arm rest).

I connected it to our 42-inch 3D Sony Bravia television via HDMI. I tried a couple of configurations with the speakers, first as a single "sound bar" in front of the set, then as two separate speakers set vertically to each side. I prefer the second arrangement.

Set up is fast and easy. It took me about 10 minutes from opening the box to listening to the system.

The system comes with a small remote control, however, we do not use it because we can operate volume from our cable remote. It does this automatically. When we turn on the TV, the Panasonic system is detected and replaces the built-in Sony speakers.

It really does make the room shake when viewing a program in Dolby Digital. And it does really "sound" like surround sound.

LG LHB335 1100-Watt Network Blu-ray Disc Home Theater System, Black

Works Excellent, Buy the Proper Cables, Though, I have had this product for a year. It works excellent, sounds great, much better than the HDTV speakers. Setup is a snap. Only one issue, but that was resolved quickly with a tech support call (a HDMI cable issue - not the LHB335). Be sure to use HDMI and/or fiber optic cables in order to ensure great sound quality (those "coax" cables have gone the way of "rabbit ears").

Please note that HDMI cables are notoriously fussy... I had to gently, and the key word here is gently, wiggle it (the HDMI cable end) a little bit to get a good connection.
Great features, (What's this?) I have had this theater system for a year and has worked perfectly. LG makes top quality products. I have this paired with a LG hdtv. Was easy to install and has well designed remote.
LG LHB335, (What's this?) Nothing against Amazon.
guess we lucked out! except for customer service!, We have had our home theater system since the end of January 2011. We havent had any noise or popping. As a matter of fact we have excellent sound.

Our living room is decent sized at just over 400sqft. We bought it so that we could hook it up to our projector. Which actually helped improve the picture quality of our cheap 800/600 native resolution Favi rio2 LED hd projector. We have the main speaker on the opposite side of the room from the dvd player itself so we had to add only a bit of speaker wire because it came with such a generous amount of wire already.

The reason for the 3 star rating though is two fold. First I don't like that we can't truly customize our own sound. You have to use presets.

Second, their customer service. I called because in watching a movie one day I had to switch the preset to another setting because I wasn't getting anything out of the front speaker. I thought it was odd but maybe it was just the one movie. It was family movie night so when I put in a second movie the same thing. This turned out to be nothing but the additional wire that we added had come loose, but none the less the kid that I was talking to was an absolute idiot. I figured out what the issue was while on hold with this brilliant individual. I hung up and oh lucky me he called back. I tried to explain to him that we had fixed it but he didn't grasp that and put me on hold again for 12 minutes without returning. I went ahead and held on because I knew he would just keep calling back.
Good Product, (What's this?) There were alot of negative reviews/ comments about this product and the heavy static that it produces but since I have purchase this product I have not had any problems with the speakers producing static, grainy or any other sounds that affect the quality of the sound. The only thing that I do not like is the fact that the device has a hard time reading blue ray discs. Not too bad, still like it.
you decide, (What's this?) Some of the speakers didn't work. Network connection didn't work. Sounds great for the two speaker connection that did work. Can't truly comment on the product since mine was delivered defective.
Great sound, but experiencing popping noise, Let me start by saying I bought this refurbished from woot.com for $179 not Amazon. I had read the reviews on Amazon regarding the whistling and popping noises but I thought for the price I would take my chance since it comes with a 90 day warrenty (being refurbished). The first thing I did when I opened the box was throw out the crappy guage speaker wire that is provided with the system. Not only was the length not going to work, but I had read from one review that changing the speaker wire eliminated the whistling noise. I used (probably overkill) 14 gauge speaker wire which barely fit in the speakers and the unit. Immediately after firing it up I watched SD/HD TV and Blu Ray. I have not heard any whistling sound at all, however, I do hear the popping noise when I switch inputs. I agree that it is not loud, but its noticable and a bit annoying, but I can get past it. Another thing that I dont like is that there is not a basic RCA (red/white/yellow) hookup.
Broke after 3rd use, I got this as a gift and the DVD player broke after using it the 3rd time. We watched the entire movie and at the end the DVD wouldn't come out and the system keeps saying "Please Wait" and its now usless. Tried contacting LG for assistance and even though its less then a year old I have to pay $69 for them to fix it. I wrote to the company stating I wouldn't by and LG product again and they never responded. I will definately try to fix on my own or go somewhere local but I will not by LG again.
Great speakers/QC issue still, I found this product by googling blu-ray home theater. This model was listed at 149.97 from Sears in Ohio. Looking at the retail and what others are selling this unit at I jumped on this deal. The unit was a floor room model. I know that sounds bad already, but the unit had never been plugged in or ever turned on. It was just sitting there to make the tv they were trying to sell look good. The other down side about this floor room model is that they no longer had the remote or the owners manual. With that said I knew what I was getting into.
Buy Anything Else, I have had this unit for about 14 months, so I know what's good and what's bad about this unit. The speakers aren't bad. The remote does not seem to send a signal well to the receiver, sometimes you're pressing the same buttons a few times before you get it to do anything. It's easy to set up and maneuver around.
Just recently the DVD player stopped recognizing the DVD on the tray. I've tried many many DVDs and Bluray but it keeps saying "No Disc." I've unplugged the unit and updated it since, but nothing's worked. Also, it takes between 30-60 min to update each time, even though I have a 15mbps download speed.
This unit seems to start slow and respond with lag or not at all to commands via remote. Batteries are not the problem here either.
If I could do it all over again, I'd buy the surround sound separately from the DVD/Bluray.

Bose 3·2·1 GSX Series III DVD Home Entertainment System - Graphite

Great Product and Powerful Compact System, I have actually reviewed this system before, but since that time I have received an update from Bose for the system and have made extensive use of features of the Bose 321 GSX system. This system continues to work flawlessly in our living room (which is 25' x 15' with a cathedral ceiling). Sound is amazing and I have never heard any distortions. Watching movies on the system is a theatrical experience with just the two front Gemstone speakers and low tones rumbling from the Acoustimass module.
It is an excellent pairing with our HD television. Listening to music is equally as impressive (and that is to be expected with the Bose name). One of the most enjoyable features of this system is the uMusic system which allows you to digitally store your audio CD's in the system. It also allows you to categorize the music selections by genere, artist or album. I have organized my musical selections into 10 separate musical genres and programmed 4 of the 9 playlists that you can create.
Good and bad........., I am a Bose fan (you either love em or hate em) I own a CD wave radio and I also own an acoustimass 6 speaker system.

This one my wife bought me for our bedroom which I think is perfect, Probably the simplest system to setup- I am no audiophile, but the sound is great for my purposes- I do not care what Bose Technology says, You have to have surround speakers to the side or behind you for that immersive effect.

Things of note, You can go online and easily find a Hack to play PAL format DVD's this came in handy when my father sent me an old box set of DVD's from the UK (I live in Jamaica and use NTSC).
WHAT A SUPER SOUND SYSTEM!!!!!, (What's this?) I COULD NOT ASK FOR A BETTER SOUND SYSTEM. I WOULD DEFINITELY BUY IT AGAIN. THE PRICE IS PRETTY MUCH SET THOUGH.
The Toy, I have owned a Bose 3-2-1 for many years. Purchased it at Best Buy after doing homework for a "home theater" system for 3 years. I paid $1000.00 for my system and have been pleased all this time. It's over 10 years old and finally the CD/DVD player broke (won't open) but I have kept the system because I hooked my new DVD player to it and I also have my VHS player attached to it so movie watching is still a great experience.

We have loved this system so much we dubbed it THE TOY and it truly is awesome! My first movie purchase after I bought it (to tell you age) was Armageddon and that movie on this machine is really excellent.
Know what you are buying and you will like it, Here's my background in music and home theater. At one point I had a home with a 'music room' (isolated front room - no TV) which contained some nice furniture and was spacious - about 20x17. Had KEF 105.7 speakers, a tube amp, a good preamp - and it was great to just sit an listen to all types of music. It was a powerful system, pushing 300W (as I recall) into the KEF's. Then I moved and lost my 'music room' - but got a nice Sony DLP TV and added a Sony Home Theater, not a great one, maybe $500 total. This system was OK, but never really listened to it for music, it was just not the same as the KEF's. (Oh, these KEF's are floor standing, large speakers). They would totally dominate the room I have now, which is about 17x15. The Sony 5.1 system did OK as mentioned, but nothing to write home about. The other day I decided to do some research on the web on a new HTIB (Home Theater in a Box) system. Went to the Forums - all of them, and most had recommendations covering all sorts of pricing, and of course, it's what they purchased. Surprising to me, BOSE was not well thought of, and price always entered the equation. I had heard BOSE before in the BOSE store, and decided to check it out again.
Pleased!, (What's this?) We have had our system for about a week. Overall we are very happy. It is perfect for the size room we have. I am sure it is not as the same as true surround sound, but it sounds good to us. It was easy to set up. Has a helpful DVD for set up instructions and a manual that is easy to read. Comes with most of the connection cords that you will need (real plus!) We have not used the music storage system yet, but will try that soon. Music CD's sound great and it will play my CD-R's that I record on my computer. DVD player works great.

Sony DVD Dream DAV-FC8 - Home theater system

The Sony Diaster Machine DAV-FC8, This is by far the worst piece of crap I ever purchased. I always loved SONY until now. This DAV-FC8 is far from a dream. It is a nightmare. The sound system actually works fairly well. However, here are the issues I have had, and I do not use the DVD player very often, keep that thought as you read this list:

    1. When turning the unit off, after it has been on for a while, I get a message on the unit that reads, "Standby" which blinks for about 30 seconds, then the unit goes off. I checked the troubleshooting section in the manual--which is a joke--and it pointed me to wiring. I checked and checked the wiring which I found was perfect. It isn't a wiring problem.

    2. When playing a DVD, every single time I play one, it freezes up, and I lose remote control of DVD features only. I can adjust everything else on it, but DVD controls, go figure.

    3. I have come to the conclusion it is a weak component in the unit, due to a cheap part which overheats. SONY will never admit it, but they screwed up in their design and there is no way to fix this problem.

Why did I get to this point on heat and a particular component? Because I have 35 years experience in electronics. I have soldered parts into units.
painfull to use, Overall the system is nice: it sounds fine for a low end system and the picture quality is fine. But I hate using it as a CD player. It takes forever to switch between disks, about 30 seconds. Loading or ejecting a disk take even longer. There is no way to tell what disks are loaded in the machine, and you cannot change one disk while it is playing another. These seem like minor things, but when you walk in to the room and turn on the stereo to listen to some music they add up to a 5 minute delay before you are actually listening to anything. Bleh. If I had it to do over I would get a system like my older one that just has a big tray instead of the fancy slot loader. I guess the people at Sony put looks ahead of function on this one.
Good Product Shame about the surround sound, ordered on amazon.com, for way less than anywhere else i could find it. Same price at local "Best Buy" as the model below, the FC7.for me, im not an expert, the sound is great, i had a bose system before this and it sounds way better that that.Installed easily but 3 minor grumbles.
    1. The surround sounds cables are not long enough had to go buy some more.
    2. Doesnt come with Wall mounts for the Surround sound, Why ?! Seems like most people have surround speakers in the ceiling or on the wall.
    3. Cant connect my Dish Receiver video out through the same video out as the DVD, So i have to switch both the TV and the Receiver. No idea why, just wil live with it.
Defenition of "Junk", Within a year of owning this system we were having disk read errors, getting the common 'standby' message, having intermittant shut down, etc... This thing is SLOW! Slow loading disks, slow playing disks, and ultra slow changing disks. Basically the reciever is a complete piece of overheating junk.
The sound however, is good.....when it works.
This is the worst product/thing I have EVER purchased in my life. I cannot express enough how much I hate having ever bought this thing, OR warn you enough not to make the same WAAAAAAAY overpriced mistake. FYI, Im using a computer surround sound on my TV now because I finally ripped the reciever outa the wall and smashed it.....
WORST PURCHASE! PROBLEMS PROBLEMS PROBLEMS, I LOVE SONY PRODUCTS... HOWEVER, THIS IS THE WORST. I HAVE HAD MY SYSTEM FOR LESS THAN 3 MONTHS... AND HAVE HAD TO SEND MY SYSTEM BACK TO SONY 2 TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE SYSTEM HAS A MIND OF ITS OWN AND OFTEN WILL NOT ACCEPT A DVD OR CD. IF IT DOES ACCEPT, IT MAY NOT EJECT IT! THE MOTOR IN THE CAROSEL CHANGER IS A CONSTANT PROBLEM. THE ODD THING IS THAT I ONLY USE THE SYSTEM MAYBE TWICE A WEEK. IT'S NOT DISPLAYED IN AN AWKWARD LOCATION. JUST THE WORST -- IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. IF YOU ARE GOING TO PURCHASE THIS SYSTEM, THINK TWICE... UNLESS YOU DON'T MIND FOOTING THE SHIPPING BILL MONTH AFTER MONTH, AND IF YOU DON'T MIND BEING WITHOUT YOUR SYSTEM MORE OFTEN THAN NOT.
Mechanical Trouble Not the first time either, I purchased a different sony about 5 months ago as an open box item from circuit city. (I'll get to this one in a minute) When we got it home it accepted a CD then decided not to give it back. Then it refused more cd's. When you would turn the unit on the elevator would go up and down relentlessly and refuse to stop. Argh, we took it in to send for repair (we bought the extended warranty). 6 weeks later we find out it has to be sent to Sony. 3 weeks later, sony says it has physical damage. When it is returned it has NEW damage. Somewhere in shipping it was damaged and due to that they refused to fix it! Circuit City made good (they note any physical damage prior to shipping and there had been none) and replaced it with this DAV-FC8. For a couple of months it had worked GREAT. We forgot about the old one until this last week when I tried to put a DVD in and it loudly rejected it. Then the elevator did the up and down thing. Argh, again. Well, hopefully they don't damage it in shipping again and it will be fixed this time. Well, This is too much of a coincidence for us. We're officially unimpressed with the Sony Dream Systems. Don't get me wrong, we love Sony, we should own stock with how much we own of theirs just to get some money back out of our investments. The only thing left in our house that isn't Sony is our televisions. Even our alarm clock is a Sony. We were so sure of Sony products that our last Camcorder, we opted to not purchase the warranty from Best Buy. No trouble and we don't expect any. The Dream systems seem to have that cornered.
Disappointing., I've owned this Dream System for 3 years, and have had continuous troubles with it. First malfunction was when the unit's disc eject mechanism broke. Second malfunction was when the unit started to experience startup troubles and would repeatedly cycle through its power-on/power-off sequence. The latest malfunction involves an annoying high-pitched whine emitting from the speakers when the unit is playing in Video 1 or Video 2 mode. Unlike other owners who experienced this problem, I am not willing to open the casing and poke around at the unit's innards. I'm just fed up with this system and would discourage any prospective buyer from considering this unit or any future models branded Sony Dream System.
10 PLUS OVERALL !!, Excellent component, plays anything you throw at it, and it does it supperbly.
Good sound clarity for basic system, but you can do better, I've owned this system since June 2004. OK for a basic system, but you can do better, even with home-theater-in-a-box. In many ways, I preferred my old 1997 Pioneer 5x100W receiver & 1999 Pioneer DVD player.

    PRO'S
    - very stylish looking
    - great sound clarity for this level system
    - appreciate the color-coded speaker connections

    CON'S
    - it's reasonably loud, but i just don't feel the raw power. my friend has a $2000 Denon system that has the same clarity, but shakes you to the bone! more comparably, i have a 1997 Pioneer system w/ 100W per channel (same as DAV-FC8), but feels more powerful, albeit way less refined.

    - occasionally, dvd will start-up with no sound. a power-off/power-on sequence usually fixes this

    - surround sound seems weak

    - my LR surround speaker has become very staticy. sony doesn't sell a replacement part, so they want $130 to repair.

    - Discs take a long time to change/load. Making this worse, the DVD player doesn't resume a disc from where you left off after turning the system off/on.
WOW!!! BEST PURCHASE I HAVE EVER MADE!!!!, By A Customer
I just bought this thing from Amazon and all I can say is WOW!!!!This is probably the best purchase I have ever made. This thing is everything I ever expected and more!! It's very easy to use as well!I have bought other brands before, and this one just blows everything else out of the water! I have to say, everyone out there who is thinking of buying this, stop thinking. I bought it and I am extremely happy with it the moment I powered this thing on.

The Dream system is endowed with a full-featured speaker system to give your DVDs and music the depth they deserve. The 5.1-channel system includes four floor-standing 100-watt speakers (front/rear), a 100-watt center speaker, and a 100-watt subwoofer, all with color-coded connections to make setup a breeze. The system connects to a series of additional components through its digital audio input, two video signal inputs, four video signal outputs (two composite, one component, and one S-Video), digital input (for satellite TV), two analog A/V inputs and one A/V output, and 3.5 mm minipin headphone jack. The device carries a one-year warranty on parts and labor. What's in the Box DAV-FC8 DVD Dream system, three 16.4-foot speaker cables, two 49.2-foot speaker cables, remote control, and user's manual. Sleek looking and slick sounding, the Sony DAV-FC8 DVD Dream system is so named because it makes your DVDs look and sound, well, dreamy.

Panasonic SC-PT750 Deluxe 5 DVD Home Theater System

Excelent with a very good price, (What's this?) I did a search for over 20 home theater systems and this on fitted very good my needs and my pocket.
Great Buy for the Money, (What's this?) I am very pleased with this home theater system for $199.
OK at the Best, I have used this system for little over an year now. Got this as a Gift :)

    The Good:

Easy installtion -- 9/10 Works almost right out of box. Wireless speakers easy to install.

Sound Quality -- 7/10 Good enough for apartments or not very large rooms. To enjoy true home theater effect, rear speakers need to placed as recommended in the mannual.

compatibility -- 9/10 I tried playing dvds/ recorded dvd/ movie cds/ picture cds etc. No compatibility issues.

Ipod Dock: Works Nicely. You can easily control ipod songs with remote.

    The BAD:

Cooling Fan of the dvd player started making loud noise after 8 months if kept switched ON for about 3-4 hours.

    No hdmi cables provided

Upconversion -- 5/10 less than OK. I have played same standard DVD on different upconverters.
Great system, This system sounds great, the wireless rear speakers can be a problem thou. they don't have alot of power to them and as it lists it can and will knock out wifi internet, they they are really nice to have.
the main system has great sound the the sub woofer can shake a room. IPOD adapter makes it even better.
Good, not great. Very good value., I looked at several home theater systems, and ended up choosing this one, for value, features, wireless rear speakers, ease of setup, and compact size. Three or four stars for sound, five stars for value and features. It has very good sound, excellent base, but is not a knock your socks off system. But I was not ready to spend $800-$1000 for Bose or another high end system, which did not have an iPod dock or other features. For the money it sounds as good as or better than other major brands (Sony, Samsung, etc.) at about the same price level. We had been listening through the TV speakers, and it is a great improvement over that. We use it with the Panasonic 42" HD plasma TV (TH-42PX60U), and a digital cable TV DVR, and connected both with HDMI cables (which are not cheap).
Pros include the wireless rear speakers, iPod dock, XM satellite radio port, HDMI cable port, easy setup, relatively small size, and excellent value (about $375).
    great speakers defaulty,
Not enough Bass, The Front speakers are great, but the sub and rear speakers are Bad. I have to buy a new sub and replace the old one to appreciate the bass of music. The "wireless" rear speakers are not REALLY wireless and it sound terrible. so if your looking for sound and doesn't need a upconvert dvd player don't buy this.
Bad NEWS, I thought Panasonic was a reputable brand. I regrettably sold my previous DVD Home Theatre System which was also Panasonic for the SC-PT750. First off the Ipod dock doesn't work w/ my 4th gen Ipod period. It charges it but that's it. Second it kills my Wi-Fi connection like mentioned in a previous review I seem to have ignored. Third it doesn't work with my HDMI cable which is the entire reason I bought it!! I called customer service only to be put on hold and eventually hung up on. I am assuming they would tell me to buy a Panasonic Cable for $50 which is ridiculous considering my $20 cable has worked fine on my PS3. Looks like I won't be listening to music while on the internet (internet only works when the system is comletely off, not just the rear speakers, I think I may just unhook them all together)! Needless to say I am exteremely dissapointed in the system. STAY AWAY. Go w/ a standard dvd player and expand later.
Just right, This is not a high end audio system but it is just what I was looking for. The price was right and the shipping went fine. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to purchase a suitable surround sound system.
unsatisfied customer, The wireless rear speakers are not wireless. If your room is over 20 feet wide, there is no way you can have the speakers on each side of the room. Even if you did, the wires connecting the two speakers to the remote box would still have to be hidden. Wireless rear speakers is an oxymoron. You have rear speakers connected to a remote box by wires.

  • Included Wireless to surround speakers

  • i-Pod Dock Incl

  • Included Wireless to surround speakers.Optional Multi-Room capability.1000 Total Watts.5 Disc DVD/CD.i-Pod Dock Incl. Your widescreen HDTV experience is only a fraction of what epitomizes the home-theater experience. Panasonic's SC-PT750 Home Theater System delivers that 5.1 channel surround sound you've been hearing so much about. It also adds a 5-Disc DVD and CD changer. Got an iPod player? There's a dock for that too! The wireless rear speakers let you place them wherever you like without the clutter of cables. You can also expand your music listening into three additional rooms with the optional SH-FX85 wireless multi-room speaker kit. To give you the astonishingly high image quality of today's HD technology, the 1080p upconversion function converts standard definition images from DVDs to high definition. That means you'll get the most out of your HDMI compatible HDTV. And unlike ordinary video up-converters that produce images with thicker edges and decreased sharpness, the HD Enhancer keeps edges crisp and clear for outstanding detail. Enhance your home theater system with the incredible combination of Panasonic sound technology and 1000 watts of power. Super Surround puts you in the action with lifelike sound from every angle, and a Four-Step Subwoofer Level Control puts you in command with rich sound effects you can hear and feel.

Samsung HT-X710 2.1 DVD/DivX HDMI/USB Home Cinema System (Set of Four, Black)

Overall Good Buy, I've had my share of home theater systems from large scale to small. This "mid size" model is not only modernly attractive, but has very respectable sound and function. Hook-up is easy, function is easy, and it is very compatible with the new Samsung HD TV I purchased making it a talked about item when company is over.
Happy that I made the buy, and would tell you it is worth the look if you are in the market.
Great value: good sound and a modern look at a decent price, (What's this?) Others have reviewed the technical specs well so I will focus on the things they did not spend much time on.
The unit is in my living room. I needed something that would be part of the furniture and not look like an obvious audio system. I needed it to sound good, but not be very loud. I also wanted very few wires and a small footprint unit that I could hide away.
Mini home cinema, Sounds good great bass much better than any TV sound. Great for bedroom or small living room.
Samsung Home entertainment center, Excellent product. Very easy to setup right out of the box. If you have a Samsung TV and are looking for total compatibility, you cannot go wrong with this product. I compared this 2.1 product and a leading competitor's 2.1 system and quite frankly, the sound was as good if not better and at a significantly lower price.Samsung HT-X710 2.
A great system with even greater features., Although the alternative aesthetic might throw off some customers, the fact of the matter is that this home cinema system is a great package. Video-wise, the upscaling is clean and sharp for HDTVs. Everything I've watched, I've seen significant improvement on the quality. I'm not very audio savvy, but the system produces great sound quality from what I can tell - no surround sound but the output is still crisp.

The real winner on this system is the number of input features. The iPod input is great; the only drawback is that the iPod works through the DVD Receiver and not the iPod itself so it lacks fast scrolling for those with large libraries. I also could not get Bluetooth Audio to work with my computer, but that's not a huge concern of mine. The best part is the USB input which can stream supported video formats straight off of the external drive - I used a Western Digital Passport 120 GB and could play movies straight off of it. Samsung definitely got it right for those who have the accompanying peripherals.

I'm a bit biased since I received my X710 during the limited time deal, but for those who can afford it, this is a great out-of-the-box system.
    Very low reliability, (What's this?)
Perfect sound on a small price, (What's this?) The Samsung HT-X710 works perfectly with my 50" Samsung plasma. I think that what ever brad of TV one has you should get the same brand in a sound system or sounnd bar. Matching brands will give you the most function between the TV and sound system. Buy a optic audio cable and a HDMI cable to hook up the sound. Buy additional HDMI cables for each device (DVD, VHS or TIVO ) .
DVD great, sound ok, problems though, I have had this system for about 5 months. I agree with other reviewers, it was easy to set up, it looks GREAT, I love the quality of the DVD pictures (or could that be my Samsung Touch of Color 42" TV which I love?) however there are some problems with the design and functioning.

First of all, because the DVD inserts vertically on the top of the unit, I could not center it on a shelf so it looked nice as it hit the next shelf above. If you are wall mounting or putting it on a top shelf, this should not be an issue.
Good but won't fit a standard AV cabinet, This is a good simple all-in-one stereo system, as mentioned by others. The sound is fine and I think the nontraditional look is cool. The unit does not switch from one input mode to the next very quickly, but that is a minor issue to me.

The main problem I have is that the box and advertising would seem to indicate that the central unit can be placed 'upright', as shown in this image, or laying flat like a more normal system. Lies! The system is useless when laying flay; the DVD player makes a complete racket and you can't read the display on the unit. Therefore, if you need a home theater to lay flat in a standard AV cabinet then you must look for something else. If you want it to sit under your TV looking like it does in the image (as I do) then you should be fine.
Stylish and Chic Home Theatre in a Box, The touch of color looks really nice with my ln40a650. The iPod cradle was definitely a selling point for me. The Sound quality is great but some might find the 5.1 underwhelming compared to a "tru surround sound" experience. I love these speakers and DVD player. Their functionality is impecable. It really completes my Entertainment unit and looks very tasteful in my living room. What I especially like is that the unit ran me about FREE-NINETY-NINE!! I had to jump on that.

Sony BRAVIA 5 Disc HDMI Home Theater System

DAV-HDX500, Picture quality is very good - upconverted DVD's have much better picture quality than with nonupconverted DVD's on an analog TV. Volume doesn't go very high - "normal" volume on DVD's is close to Max. Would have preferred faster single disk DVD changer to the slow, noisy multidisc changer provided. Not as many inputs onthe back as I would like. The large number of parts in the box were intimidating, however it went together easily.
better than bose 3-2-1, This is for the HDX 501W.

We bought a Bose 321 and returned it to the store (see my review on it). We then bought this much cheaper system, fully expecting to be disappointed and exchange it for the expensive Bose Lifestyle Systems - the cheapest of which is 3 times the price of the Bravia.

However, we were pleasantly surprised, it has done well. The sound is good. The wireless rear speakers provide good support.

We watched a DVD - and I thought a neighbor had shot off a rocket; one of the speakers was near a window and was playing a rocket being fired!

    - it has a 1080p upconvertor DVD player
    - rear speakers connect wirelessly
    - microphone + player configures speakers to acoustics of room
    - front speakers have stands, there is an ipod connector
    - hdmi output to connect to hdtv

If there is any con, it is that there is not too much control for the subwoofer. Some tracks have a thump even with dynamic bass turned off; my wife doesnt like not being able to turn it off; we shall read the manual someday to learn how to!

Otherwise, excellent value. I am quite satisfied.
Average, Picked one from local Sams club for 477. In my view this is below average home theatre system.

    1. Not so many connections. It should be 1080P/24 and should have HDMI in. Then only you can connect any BD / HD player or PS3 for high quality sound.

    2. Sound is fine but not many controls. Not so friendly Remote or on-screen display. Should have EQ displayed at least.

    3. Bravia synchronization, Wireless speakers and iPOD doc are nice features I fell for. Anyway spent 3 hours to unpack, install & Learn. I wish to adjust with this system since I do not have much time to return / exchange.

I advise to go for a better BD/HD home theatre system even if you need to wait for. Do not care much for Bravia synchronization though the feature is nice.
Misleading technology!, Well, you'd think that a component with "HD" in its name would indicate that it would actually play HD format discs... NOT SO!!! 8-(

While the Sony DAV-HDS501W seems like it should play HD discs, it only plays the following formats:

    DVD VIDEO
    DVD-RW/DVD-R
    DVD+RW/DVD+R
VIDEO CD (Ver 1.1 and 2.
receiver is a joke!, I have to question whether some of the reviews posted about this product are real. The functionality of the sony bravia surround system is very poor. The only good thing about this receiver is the picture quality! it sounded ok for watching movies (maybe 3 out of 5 stars), but if you ever plan to listen to a cd dont bother! A $20 walmart boom box would sound far superior.
Very Nice System, I bought the HDX 501W and Im very happy with the sound and picture quality. (It is also compatable with a Blu Ray Player.) It upscales all of my older dvd's to look new again. However...a few of my older rewrite dvds are not compatable with this player. Set up took me about 3.5 hours and is very simple. Follow the owners manual step by step. Concert dvd's sound amazing! You can hear every note with a clarity that is similar to being there live. Before buying this system I had purchased a 5.1 Panasonic with wireless speakers and it was horrible. I returned it and found the Sony Bravia to be my new favorite addition to my home. Great system for the price. I love it.
Home Theatre System HDX501W, Really a great system. Keep in mind those rear speakers hook to an amp that reqires 110v. I had a little problem finding 110v for these speakers. All together it took me about three hours to get the system hooked up and working. Really a unique way to balance out all of the speakers.
